Step 1 — Surface Preparation (5 min)

  • Wash hood surface with isopropyl alcohol (IPA 70%+) — remove all wax and grease
  • Let dry completely — 10 minutes minimum in warm weather
  • Measure panel dimensions against hood and mark edges with masking tape
  • Pro Tip: Use a clean microfiber cloth with IPA. Avoid paper towels — they leave lint that ruins adhesion.

Step 2 — Panel Placement (10 min)

  • Dry-fit the panel (no adhesive) — confirm it lies flat with no gaps larger than 3mm
  • Center the panel left-right using masking tape guidelines
  • Ensure panel does not overhang hood edges — leave 15mm margin minimum
  • Mark final position with masking tape corners before removing panel

Step 3 — Adhesive Mounting (15 min)

  • Apply VHB tape strips to the back of the panel (included in kit)
  • Peel backing halfway on each tape strip before positioning
  • Align panel to masking tape marks and press firmly — start from center outward
  • Apply pressure along full surface for 60 seconds minimum
  • Allow 24-hour full cure before driving — 72 hours recommended
  • Pro Tip: Ideal mounting temperature: 15°C–38°C. Below 10°C the adhesive will not bond properly.

Step 4 — Cable Routing (20 min)

  • Route cable along hood crease to minimize visibility
  • Use included cable clips or self-adhesive cable tie bases
  • Pass cable through firewall using existing grommets (no drilling required)
  • Leave 100mm of slack at hood-body junction for hinge movement
  • Seal all cable entry points with self-amalgamating tape or silicone

Step 5 — MPPT Controller Wiring (30 min)

  • Connect panel cable to MPPT controller PV input (check polarity first)
  • Connect MPPT output to battery — positive first, negative second
  • Set battery type on MPPT (AGM/LiFePO4/Gel) before first connect
  • Add inline fuse between MPPT and battery (within 150mm of battery)
  • Pro Tip: Never connect/disconnect battery while panel is in sunlight — disconnect panel first.

Step 6 — System Test (10 min)

  • Check MPPT display shows panel wattage in direct sunlight
  • Verify battery charging current on controller display
  • Perform a hood flex test — open and close hood 10 times, check cable slack
  • Register your warranty at lensunsolar.com
  • Expected output: In full sun, a 100W panel should show 70–90W on MPPT display.
